ViewSonic VX912
First sysmtoms were of no power. Found several swollen caps and repalced them. Afterward there was power, but the picture would only come on for a few seconds. There was also a loud buzzing sound that was coming fromthe power board. I reflowed a few solder joints and got the lights to stay on, but the buzzing noise was still there. The main transformer and large cap were also getting very hot. I suspected the xformer was the issue. After doing a bit of Googling (that just sounds bad, almost perverted!), I found another post suggesting that all caps be replaced. Included in this list was the 100uF/400v main cap. So I yanked mine out and hit it with my trusty Blue ESR meter. It gave no reading at all, as though it were completely open. I didn't know if this was a normal reading for such a large cap, so I pulled another from a spare (toasted) power supply I had. This other one registered on Blue ESR meter as having .668 ohms of Equivelent Series Resistance. So I put it in the Viewsonic and... VOILA!
No noise, no flickering, no smoke.
Just raw, unharnessed, Viewsonic picture power! Ya baby!
